Woman Stabbed In Hyde & One Man Arrested

A woman is recovering from stab wounds after being stabbed in what police say is likely to be an isolated incident.

A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in Hyde.

Shortly before 10.20pm on Monday 16 May 2016, police were called to the Sportsman Pub, on Mottram Road.

Officers attended and found a 26-year-old woman with a stab wound to the chest. She was taken to hospital and was later discharged after being treated for her injuries.

A man was spotted a short while later pouring petrol into the front door of a property on Lumn Road and a vehicle was also set alight outside the property.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He was detained by officers at the scene and arrested before being taken to Stepping Hill Hospital.

During the second incident a police dog was set on fire and his fur was singed but is not seriously injured.

Detective Inspector Dave Loughlin, of GMP’s Tameside division, said: “We believe this is an isolated attack that poses no threat to the wider community.

“The victim and her family are feeling traumatised but fortunately she should make a full recovery.

“We are linking the two incidents and have a arrested a man who we will speak to when he is released from hospital.”
